Lexi is working within the mental health space and at this point in her journey with adoption exploring all the resources. Lexi shares her vision and idea to connect adoptees living abroad in the countries they are abroad in. This episode, Lian shares about how yoga has been a part of her process and identifying feelings related to adoption. We also talk about how being the ‘model adoptee’ was default just because of age and the feeling of trying to figure out self while also fitting this narrative. Also hearing about Lian’s move to LA with barely any personal belongings is inspiring! You can learn more @youcanyogala on instagram or at www.youcanyogala.com. Lian’s virtual adoptee yoga class is held every first Saturday of the month. NEXT ONE IS APRIL 6!
Other scheduled classes are 5/4, 6/1 and held from 9-11am PT/ 2-4 pm ET. More info and sign up is here https://www.youcanyogala.com/community-classes.

Emma had an opportunity to go to China for a 5 week immersion program and shares about her experience. When it came to choosing a language to study, she chose Chinese and studied throughout high school and college. It was very insightful to hear about the 5 week program visit and processing the unbalanced feelings and recognizing later on what they were. We also talk about piercings and tattoos because that is always a fun time!

We both have cleft palettes that have been repaired. Xiaoyan has recently been exploring more about adoption and culture in relation to her identity. I got to reminisce about pop culture references that are pre Y2K and laugh along with Xiaoyan as I heard more about her discoveries and journey.

Birthday episode 生日!A solo reflection and a recording on a windy rooftop in the city with Katie. In the week since turning 30, been able to reflect more about  quality over quantity, leaving what doesn't serve you, and how every shift in life, there's change. I reflect on meeting hosts of a show I've been a fan of for a long while, being a fashion model (photoshoot), visiting home soon, and search process.

NOTE: This episode contains some language that may not be suitable for some but mostly it is non explicit. Run time is around 1 hour and 25 minutes with a break around 42 minutes.
On this double guest (my first one) episode, I talk with fellow Chinese adoptees from VAX dragon boat season 1 and 2. We share our perspectives and learn from one another about friendships, childhood, siblings, nature/nurture and decide this group therapy was solid. Follow @h.langr.outside @notthefruitsnacks @vaxdragonboat on instagram.
Quotes: It wasn’t that I actually had sit down discussions that I had about adoption stuff now that I do with a therapist. I would have needed it because I didn't have the tools to figure out what was missing or what my needs were. I didn’t realize that I wasn't ok. It would've been very helpful to have known that at 15. When you don't think about it, things just seem fine. But there's something down beneath the surface affecting everything else and it warped my  sense of safety and normalcy. - Hannah
As far as overcompensating… I would try to be more asian but it was never enough. The incessant comments about IT not being enough. I wore a qipao because I really truly thought it was beautiful and I am Chinese American. It’s part of my culture that I want to show off.  I’ve always tried to try….Not necessarily because I want to prove something but just because I want to be in touch with that part of me. Evelyn
